The Tomb of Pope Julius II was commissioned to Michelangelo who, through the help of his assistants too, managed to create a complex made by sculptures and architectures that was meant to be inside St. Peter Basilica. Finally Julius I Tomb is located in St. Peter in Chains Church, in Monti District.
What you will be able to see during your visit however, is not the original plan by Michelangelo since it was supposed to be much bigger. The actual sculpture is a simple wall tomb as well as some figures such as the worldwide famous “Moses”, depcted with horns on his head, as per Exodus chapters.
A legend recounts that Michelangelo struck the right knee commanding the statue to speak, because the thought lif ewas the only missing thing.
