Church of St. Paul alla Regola

The church of Saint Paul alla Regola is located in a neighbourhood called Regola and is a very old site and was the stage of some important episodes of Saint Paul’s life. Thanks to some excavation work done at the end of the 20th century, some researchers discovered that the church had been built four times. In the past, this site was used as a storage for the goods produced near the river Tiber and Saint Paul apostle was engaged in such activities.

According to some academics, Paul lived in this place which only later was transformed in an oratory and then in a church. It was in this place that Paul apostle wrote many of the letters contained in the Holy Bible. The church is characterised by a Greek-cross plan with a main dome at the top and it also has four chapels with some little domes. The church also includes a fresco worth noting that portrays the Virgin Mary breastfeeding, known as “Madonna delle Grazie”.
