This combo is structured in two parts: the first one focusing on the Renaissance Rome with a visit at the Vatican; the second one about the Ancient Rome covering the Colosseum and its restricted section of the Arena Floor closed to the general public without special reservation and ticket.
The tour starts at the Vatican where you will join a group of maximum 10 people and our guide for an almost private visit of the Vatican. It will be a great chance to discover the outstanding galleries, such as the Gallery of Maps, of one of the most famous museums in the world. Following our guide, you will appreciate unique artworks displayed in these corridors and you will learn interesting details about them thanks to the headsets provided for the whole tour. During the visit you will also spend some time to visit the apartments of Pope Borgia and Pope Julius II where you will be amazed by Raphael’s Rooms and his “School of Athens”.
Time will fly and, before you know it, you will have reached the Sistine Chapel in which you will have some time to admire the Last Judgement and the Creation of the World painted by Michelangelo in a holy silence. In fact, the guide will only explain the Sistine Chapel outside, since nobody is allowed to talk inside the chapel. Afterwards, you will access the Basilica directly from the Chapel avoiding any line. Once in the Basilica, you will see the beautiful “Pietà” by Michelangelo and the impressive “Baldachino” by Bernini, the Popes’ tomb; among them, do not miss to see the tomb of Alexander the VII by Bernini and the one of Pope Innocent the VIII by the sculptor Antonio Pollaiolo.
During the second part of the tour you will join a slightly larger group of maximum 24 people to explore the Colosseum and the Arena Floor, one of the restricted area, acquiring an understanding of the Ancient Rome. Our guide will teach you many stories and traditions of ancient Rome and you will discover also the roman food, roman emperors, roman entertainments and of course the roman Gladiators who today can be compared to celebrities!. the The Gladiator were accessing inside to the Colosseum from the undergrounds tunnels but when they were dead they were brought out by slaves with the mask of the ferry man “Charon” through the so called “Porta Libitinaria” or Gate of the Death.
