Piazza di Pietra, in English ‘stone’, is the name of the square which during the Middle Ages came to refer to the atmosphere of the square that was always rather gloomy because of Adriano’s Temple used as a fortress.
The temple occupied a large section of the square and was made of 13 white marble columns and 11 of them are still intact today. In the following years, the temple lost its original function and was transformed in the Chamber of Commerce in 1879. Piazza di Pietra is in a great location, extremely close to the marvellous Pantheon. Another point of interest of this area is Palazzo Ferrini, designed by Onorio Longhi at the beginning of the XVII century.
