The Uffizi Gallery is a famous art museum located in the Historic Centre of Florence. This museum displays an incredibly vast collection of works of art, mainly belonging to the Italian Renaissance.
The construction of Uffizi only begun in 1560, requested by Cosimo I de’ Medici, member of the ruling house in Florence, to fulfil the need for more offices for magistrates, reason why the name of the museum is “Uffizi” which means “offices”. The Uffizi museum is composed of two building connected by a corridor, forming a complex with a “U” shape. The Uffizi Gallery also displays a portico featuring Doric columns with recesses filled with statues of famous Florentines. Once entered in the museum, visitors can first appreciate a collection of Roman busts to then have a look at portraits and finally admire masterpieces like “The Birth of Venus”, “La Primavera”, “Madonna of the Goldfinch” and many more beauties.
