Basilica St. Clemente

St. Clemente Basilica is one of the oldest Churches in Rome, as it dates back to the first centuries after the birth of Christ. The actual Church is built over 3 different levels, each of them belonging to a different period.

The lowest level was built during the 1st century when this same place was a private home where the first Christian celebrations took place, then, it developed so that it was considered officially a Basilica form 6th century until later on.

The second level instead, dates back to the 2nd century when San Clemente was a pagan school dedicated to God Mithra. The last and most recent level, dating back to the 4th century, had the main function of an Early Christian Basilica.
