Best of Rome for Kids Walking Adventure starts in Piazza di Spagna, one of Rome’s most iconic squares. Here you can see the stunning Spanish steps of Trinità dei Monti, which have recently been cleaned and restored. At the foot of the staircase is Bernini’s “Barcaccia” Fountain, a fantastic place to drink fresh water and take a family snap.
From here, walk with your guide through the typically cobblestoned alleys of the city centre, lined on both sides by beautiful boutiques and restaurants. View the magnificent Trevi Fountain: each year, tons of tourists honor the tradition by throwing a coin inside the fountain to ensure their return to the Eternal City. Throw in one coin to ensure your return to Rome, two to fall in love in Rome and three for wedding bells!
The next stop is in Piazza della Rotonda which houses the amazing round building of the Pantheon. Once a pagan temple, it was later turned by the Romans into one of Imperial Rome’s most prestigious buildings only to be finally turned into a Catholic Church. Nowadays, it holds the tombs of Raphael and other important characters as well as the first two kings of Italy. Yet mostly famous for the hole in its dome! No need to ask your guide about its fascinating history as they will share the background stories and other facts that will engage your mind.
Another fantastic square to visit is Piazza Navona, a masterpiece of the Baroque era. The amazing Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone designed by Borromini is located in the center of this square. While at the top, centre and bottom of the square lie three splendid fountains which stand out. The Fountain of the Four Rivers at the very centre, is one of Bernini’s best masterpieces.
