Isola del Liri is a small Italian town in the province of Frosinone, situated between two arms of the river Liri, which separates at the height of the Boncompagni-Viscogliosi Castle and flows into two waterfalls.
The one on the right, called “Cascata del Valcatoio” and whose waters are collected to feed an electrical production system, is less spectacular than the one on the left, called “Cascata Grande” and one of the few waterfalls located in a city center.
The beauty created by the lights of the sunset makes it the most visited and photographed part of the town, catching also the eyes of various artists such as, among others, I. Bidault, whose painting of the Isola is displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Visiting here you can’t miss the Castle, a medieval fortress that in the past was used to protect the town from the enemies and that now hosts a collection of biblical frescoes, bas-reliefs of the duchy’s lands and a beautiful park.
It is also recommended that you take a walk towards Parco Fluviale admiring remnants of ancient paper machines, symbols of a long tradition that’s about to be exposed in the Museum of Paper and Telecommunications’ Civilization, whose home will be the recently-brought-to-life ancient Béranger-Coste paper factory.
